I find the 1700s and early 1800s so interesting and love movies like Casanova, Count of Monte Cristo, also Barry Lyndon.
Just downloaded and about to watch Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001).
Any suggestions?

OP here. I love series like The Tudors and The Borgias as well but I suppose those are much harder to come by. I tried watching Versailles but it turned into weird american sex fetish porn with an african running around and fucking the royals.

‘St. Ives’ 1998.
The 1700s and early 1800s are severely underepresented.
Last of the Mohicans
Amadeus
Cyrano de Bergerac
Anything with The 3 Musketeers or the Man in the Iron Mask, but I don't know what I could recommend you, there are a lot of adaptations.
The French made a shitload of movies about this era during the 1950s/1960s, the "de cape et d'épée" fad. I'm not sure how well they aged or if you can even find subtitled versions.
If cou yan stomach movies that take place a little later:
Dangerous Liaisons
Master & Commander
The Patriot
Waterloo (the 1970 kino)

To be fair it's pretty clear that Miyazaki saw this before making Bloodborne.
