Ukraine is a wheat export but all that grain is stuck inside the country because most of the ukrainian black sea coast is currently under russian military occupation and nothing can get in or out of Odessa due to the russian navy. Rail is not an alternative because it simply can't move stuff at sufficient volume and requires multiple unnecessary stops along the line from Ukraine to the export countries. No one can really cover for the lack of Ukraine's exports because crop yields are falling due to multiple factors.

Now, this isn't causing a famine in most of the northern hemisphere because most western countries have highly developed agricultural industries, but the global south having nothing to eat will lead to famine and violence, and consequently migrants. This will greatly increase political instability in Europe and its immediate surroundings.

Brazil is tripling its wheat crops area this year. And with the Embrapa tech our fields produce more too than Russia. Not to mention that it's possible to plant wheat several times a year in Brazil.
We will move from wheat importer to exporter by next year.
And that's only Brazil, many other countries are moving to produce their own wheat.

Plus, the corn cycle in Brazil is 115 days (and can be produced year-round), and the chicken cycle is 42 days. That means that if pushes comes to shove, in 157 days (5~months) Brazil can multiply its poultry production to several times what it has now.

As farming becomes more advanced, it also becomes fragile and easier to fuck up. Think of Rhodesia, "the bread basket of Africa", which began to starve when they had a revolution and became Zimbabwe. Their population boomed with advanced farming; but when they lost the human capital of the whites, traditional hand-farming methods did not have good enough crop-yields to feed a much larger population. Many poor countries will soon face a choice; stop doing lucrative farming, like growing cotton, orchards, etc; and start growing wheat to feed yourself (and become even more poor).

Due to covid19 + Russia and Ukraine war, a lot of farming supply chains are fucked up. Both Russia and Ukraine exported a lot of wheat. But Ukraine is going to miss a growing season, and become a net importer. Places that are not naturally fertile have been growing crops with imported fertilizers. Russia is a big (potash) fertilizer exporter; but has other concerns.
