i read somewhere that before making the film refn just took gosling to a drive, didn't say anything throughout the whole thing like an autist and played songs from kavinsky, desire etc. that would make up the soundtrack later. then after the drive gosling was like wtf was that and refn said that THIS is the movie i'm gonna make and you are going to star in it. and the end result was kino of the highest order.
