Anime fucking sucks. The plots are almost all entirely carbon copies of one another; ironically the most original stories are shonen series. And the quality of animation has gone down the tubes in the last decade - big time.

No. One of the most important aspects of visual storytelling is the human face, especially the close-up. The nuances of the human face in full display by a great actor can encapsulate more emotion that any other filmmaking technique. Anime completely lacks this, as you can only differentiate the characters by their kindergarten color palette of eye and hair colors. The faces are all identical and capture nothing. And that's ignoring the culture around anime, which limits it to a bunch of retarded juvenile shit like super natural martial arts and giant robots.
