Why are rent prices so high in NL (starting at 900€/month)? Is it the price you have to pay to live in a country without suffering?

opkankeren hier is de draad:

if you're poor you can get free rental aid of a maximum of 350 euro's a month or something like that

Yes. But you're probably looking for an apartment in the city, the rent is always higher there.
If you want to have affordable housing look outside of the big cities.

Was looking at Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Utrecht. Prices are surprisingly similar.

Unfortunately I'm not poor, so I have to pay everything out of my own pocket :(

Where should I look? It should have
>good internet connection for wfh
>food shops in short walking distance
>a good rail connection, in case I need/want to go somewhere far

Well, you can find that in any city. But the south is usually cheaper.
You can try woningnet.nl? I'm looking for housing myself but it's social housing which is cheaper.

Ik weet alleen dat ik niks weet

Well, south is preferable because it's closer to the family in Germany, in case I want to visit.
North is also preferable because I would like to see the NORF sea again. Being able to cycle there from Amsterdam in just under 2 hours sound pretty kino, to be honest.

>good internet connection for wfh
That's everywhere
>food shops in short walking distance
So any small town
>a good rail connection, in case I need/want to go somewhere far
Just check the map for where the railroads are so you can pick a town with a trainstation.

Basically my town of 30k people has everything. I've got 100Mbit fibre, but 500 and 1Gbit was available. Town centre is 1km away and I'm next to the trainstation.
All I miss is having a proper house, as I'm in a tiny apartment which I have to share.

>That's everywhere
Based. The situation in Germany or Austria is completely fucked up. Even in Vienna you usually cannot get fibre connection, just shaky mobile internet.
In Germany you don't even get that, so you either live in a soulless hive city like Frankfurt or you MAY get 2 mbit/s over telefax wire for just 50€/month.

>good internet connection for wfh
Shouldn't be a problem, even small villages are getting fiber now, though Ziggo is fighting tooth and nail to keep everyone on shit cable.
>food shops in short walking distance
Dutch city planning aims to have supermarkets within walking distance of every household, so that shouldn't be a problem. Though it depends on what you mean by "short walk" of course, up to 2 km?
>a good rail connection, in case I need/want to go somewhere far
pic related, even this village in the middle of nowhere has a train every 30 minutes, gets you to Amsterdam in 2 hours.

>Though it depends on what you mean by "short walk"
Really short, as in if you want something you should be able to get in in 10 minutes (during regular shop opening hours, taking public transit to the 24/7 market does not count). So 500m.

>during regular shop opening hours
Which is usually 7-22

>taking public transit to the 24/7 market does not count
I would need to take a train for an hour I believe to get to the nearest 24/7 market, but the public transport doesn't really work when that's open and other shops aren't.

Also, to go shopping you use the bike.

>Which is usually 7-22
Waar?

10 minutes gets you 3 km if you take your bicycle. You do know how to ride one, right user?

Attached: file.png (896x504, 472.01K)

Of course, good bike infrastructure would be the prime reason to go to the NL.
I loved cycling as a student in Germany, but it was mostly a time consideration (fastest way to get around town) and reasonably safe, because drivers in Germany are usually good and considerate.
In Austria it's a completely different story, though, drivers are completely reckless and cycling here is only comfortable if you have a deep seated death wish. So if I want to go somewhere here it's just walking or public transit.

Rust in pis, poepie draad

>drivers in Germany are usually good
They're horrible.
Stick too much to the speed limit (going too slow), and in corners they crawl to a stop basically because they can't corner for shit. They should be banned from driving here.

waar is iedereen

>going too slow
t. car-brained idiot. Going 50 by tachometer (in reality 45 or something) in a 50km/h zone IS a huge safety improvement and only costs a few seconds of time.

Kanker bek dicht opa

Doing 99 on your tach is dangerous on a highway were everyone is doing 100+ on GPS, as even the big lorries will overtake you.
