My ancestors probably were exempt by military service since they lived in Polish Lithuanian commonwealth and were peasants, only nobles could be called to arms and these nobles could levy armed men from their lands, majority of peasants were anyway exempt from military service although you could join the local militias and then be called to war, anyway, Polish mostly used cavalry and pike/riflemen wielding infantry and yeah, we got conquered bro… oh no no no
