tl;dr walter has to always cook meth and saul always has to be a lawyer so theres never any risk that anything will get in the way of either for long.
for "drama" you get the pattern of business/relationship looks good -> characters get fucked with by side characters -> characters retaliate against side characters -> business/relationship turns south
for brba and bcs this happens over 2 season arcs, but its the same story, told over and over and over with different window dressing :)
