The movie is full of plot contrivances. It’s Tarantino’s worst in that respect.

(1) Django didn’t need to go to the plantation to get his wife. Schultz could’ve gone himself to get her. There was no need to try and deceive Candie.

(2) Schultz shooting Candie and endangering Django and his wife was completely retarded. It made no sense and was out of character.

(3) There is absolutely no way Stephen would’ve sold Django after the shootout. The reasons he gives is stupid. They would’ve tortured and killed him at Candie Land.

This really ruined the movie. Aside from this, it was a good movie, but this scene was so unbelievable it just was not realistic behavior in any way.

I took it as his pride was wounded and he couldnt help himself because he didnt want candie to get the better of him. He was seething and didnt make a rational decision.

Schultz had a point with his horse metaphor. There was no guarantee that Candie wouldve sold Hildi if asked. Its easier to convince someone to sell something small if they're in the midst of selling something big

But he was an extremely rational man who already risked his life for someone he didnt even know. Why go through all that and throw it away on refusing a handshake? Quarantino was trying to show how moral he was but it just comes out like one of those fake stories on Twitter or FB where people are making it up to virtue signal
