The effects were actually phenomenal for that trap. The problem is the garbage 3D cameras and when doing the DVD / Blu-Ray release they fucked up the footage during the transfer, so now the entire movie looks glossy and disgusting, resulting in the pink blood too. To this day they've never re-released Saw 3D with a corrected version of the film, which is no surprise, they probably want to pretend Saw 3D doesn't exist at this point.
