South Korea is doing a fat job at selling itself to the western world, factually replacing Japan as the go to country for your Asian fix.
Japan is failing at keeping the pace in both technology and media production, the latter still being 100% dedicated to internal audience and basically attracting only weeaboos. Sk on the other had is proving to be better at making products more palatable for western audiences.
Netflix is dunking hard on this because after the success of Parasite (which basically jump started the whole thing) and Squid Game (which I liked but it's vastly overrated) they realized they could get competently made products (at least in terms of production values) for literal peanuts; and in fact now they're trying really hard to push that zombie shit as the next SG.
As for me, I'd rather have Korea making movies than China, but it doesn't mean that anything they meme you into watching will be actually worth your time.
