Honestly Naruse is only better than Kurosawa in his later films, and that comes from somebody who thinks Kurosawa is mainly entertainment.

You're still at the beginning of your film journey, it's going to be fun, discovering films that resonate with you. Good luck. Your backlog is fine, a little bloated though. Make a pledge to not add anything to it, start watching, even if it's just one film a week or something.
