The LOTR trilogy really is as close to fantastical perfection in film format as we will ever get. Movies like that couldn't be made on that level of quality prior to the very late 90s simply due to technological constraints, and they couldn't be made after due to the social order of the world that inspired them completely breaking down into semi-retarded post-irony and dystopian cyberpunk man-made horrors beyond comprehension. They are movies that could only have come from that exact golden moment in time in the late 90s/early 00s.

She's not ugly but she looks like some kind of moon faced Slav. She would have made a good hobbit or foreign human, not a fucking elf. Agent Smith and Aerosmith Girl were also complete faceplants at least in terms of looks.

Much better choice. Cate was solidly okay looking. She should've been someone that you'd double take at which Cate definitely has never been outside of select instances of costume makeup as pretty as she's become.

CGI Gollum is hit or miss. Scene by scene, he goes from okay to awful. Should've just been makeup like the ROTK opener. Also they took way too much screentime humanizing him despite the necessity for him to betray them and attempt to steal the ring twice, going as far as making Frodo look like a retard for trusting someone so obviously devious over his longtime friend.
Took too many liberties with the story for reasons which aren't clear (Faramir is a prick now, the army of the dead are Haunted Mansion ghosts in a mountain, Aragorn death fakeout, etc etc).
That said, they're not perfect but they're the best you can conceivably get out of "LOTR as a blockbuster motion picture".
Fellowship definitely holds up best with the least unnecessary additions and the most solid execution using the whole suite of tricks.
