I think it's because Hollywood is trying to normalise averageness, the idea of an attractive wwomen is seen as offensive because women are loathsome of others that are considered more attractive. It's because hollywood started to notice that when they'd cast this kind of girl as a secondary supporting character, or as a friend/sibling of the lead or even just a waitress only visible for 12 seconds in the first act of the movie you had hundreds of thousands of people falling over themselves about how quirky and cute she was and how much she should have been cast as the lead. After decades of that pattern they decided to give it a shot. This is what you did. This is what you asked for.
