I like the watchlist feature. I treat it like IMDB where I can see who was in what and general consensus on what was good. The logging just pleases my autism because I can summarize my feelings in a review and sometimes the entries brings back memories.

I just think that the concept of rating movies on a single scale (or just generally trying to express the value of a movie by quantification is kinda dumb.

Not if you are doing it for yourself.

What factors do flow into your rating?

You should have more 5 stars than anything else. You know your own tastes and should just watch good movies.

yes, but on a large scale it can be useful. Like I said I can get the general consensus on a film based on the score. If I want to watch a director after hearing about them I can sort by what the general moving watching public thinks is good. It's not a good system on an individual basis, and definitely allows "prestige" films to rise the ranks without much thought into the actual quality of the movie (IE marvel stuff.)
There's reviews if you want to read someone's essay about the movie, and if you follow people and threat them as curators it can be a lot of fun. I've been more interested in a movie because someone who I think is funny or that I like enjoys it.
I think it should be simplified to a 3 star rating. Most people only rate stuff as 5, 3, or 1 stars. The distinction between them is negligible, and it would encourage more complex analysis in the reviews.

How do I know if it's a good movie if I haven't watched it yet?

I only watch films that I've heard are good or that appeal to me.

Looking at the cover is in 90% of cases enough to determine wether a films is garbage

Hmm... true.

I really want to see your 5*s

Its hard to say because its really subjective to me and After watching a movie I usually immediately know what rating it will get in my scale but sometimes it also depends on the day but generally:
1* = pure bullshit (less than low effort), I wasted my time watching this
2* = Bad movie, okay for a hangover sunday or just background noise
3* = okay
4* = good movie (would recommend to friends)
5* = pure kino

damn im pretty cliche
>Taxi Driver
>The Master
>Buffalo '66
>Nashville
>The Last Picture Show
