He looked fairly badass in Mando, the worked around the fact he was a fat old man and made Boba look like an absolute unit and differentiated him from Mando by having him be more physical. It's just the writing and director for the first episodes that suck, I can't imagine the show would have been better even if they made that change

They really dropped the ball with the assassin scene. They could have had Boba come out the gate looking formidable, had him use his jetpack, handle the assassins easily.
But instead they had him look like a jobber and he still hasn't had any cool moments in the present day since.
