They were great early on when they were still outsiders but they gradually became the people they used to mock. Ultimately they were better business men than artists. Getting the online streaming rights in their contract was a genius and farsighted move for 1997. They are worth a billion dollars now.

Trey has always been the sole writer and director. Only a handful of episodes over 25 have any writing credits besides him

they've done some really genius stuff but i do think overall south park isn't as genius as its been made out to be by so many. still must watch for a young lad who needs an edgy laugh. as ive got older ive come to prefer other comedies but yeah it was cool

Matt's essentially Trey's editor. He exists as someone with the best insight into and authority on Trey's creative process.
Trey's successful enough to do stuff on his own and people would probably mark it as genius anyway since he's so particularly famous but in reality a lot of creative partnerships are like this and explain why a lot of duos work so well and solo projects afterward tend to fail
