Initial Shrek was going to be a much younger dude going through more classic adolescent shit.
After they'd already started making assets and recording some of the script, Farley overdosed and was left to die by a particularly hard-hearted prostitute.
When they took on Mike Myers he wanted to do a Scottish accent and made them write an entirely new script for Shrek, but a lot of the early design shit stuck around.
