OP, I'm a published author and one of my books and one of my short stories got optioned but not made into kinos (and probably never will). I still have a day job that I hate. My advice to you from personal experience and the people I've talked to is that you should not dream of being a kino writer full time, but rather write kinos in your free time because you genuinely enjoy doing it, and if other people get to see your work/you get some money for it then great. That's pretty much how it is for everyone who does this
