A very long time ago I went to a convention in Texas where Scotty signing autographs was the main draw. This was shortly after TNG went off the air and DS9 had started. Susan Sackett, who was Roddenberry's personal assistant for 30 years, was a speaker on the day I went there. Her entire speech, for what must have been 30 or 45 minutes, was about how she was Gene's mistress and how he had all these annoying personal habit that she missed. He had died just a few years before that and she was obviously still in mourning. The whole audience was dead silent for the entire speech and had to be told to clap by the PA announcer as she was leaving. That's how stunned we all were.
