What greater story?

I thought they were trying to say she was a clone

>greater story
there was no greater story to tell, just a committee of writers brainstorming a bunch of "wouldn't it be cool if...?" moments on a whiteboard

its related to the movie multiplicity

>I thought they were trying to say she was a clone
seconded, it was hinting at a clone plot line

Absolutely nothing. It's just something thrown in to make the story look deep. It's a scene that serves no purpose.

Redditors minds

It's quite simple Jungian imagery

This. They wanted something about history repeating/past is present is future bullshit

It's an homage to a scene from Zardoz.

Mental masturbation. Rian's big enlightening moment in his life was looking into a mirror at himself and he wanted to put that into his work so we could all see that narcissism is the answer.

It's a pretty subtle point, but the purpose of having rey make the same face in so many different ways and then layering all of them over each other is to create a multi layered scene with multiple meanings. Let's unpack them. First, by showing the layering Rian is pointing out and mocking the nature of the sequels as shameless clones of the OT. Second, by plastering Daisy Ridley's "acting" face over multiple layers it makes it harder for audiences to look away and forces them to realize she's a poor actress. This is also the point of using a grey screen for the background, there's nothing else to look at except her. Finally, by showing so many clones it's Rian predicting that Disney will continue to pump out shameless clones of the original films in an attempt to recreate the magic of them. But Rey fades away and out of frame, showing the fundamentally pointless nature of trying when all you do is create mindless clones. It's pretty deep, as expected of Rian.

-muh fate and inevitability
-showing her as the next vessel in line for the emperor
-it looks cool, shut up

it represents like....duality and uh....emanation and shit bro. lol *hits pipe*

>story

>hey member a new hope?

and thats it

Johnson is an absolute madlad

This is probably the most annoying scene in the movie. A wank to scenes like the one in Citizen Kane.
It shows you the immaturity and shallowness of both director and critic. Literally what 15 yo would do to feel smart.

I will never understand why nerds were so triggered by this movie.

They fall for bait, as an example your post.

Because it's bad, preachy, annoying, and loved by people who are all of the above

Also the crane shot from wings.

REFERENCES ARE FINE. But they need context OR must be subtle. Nothing is subtle in this movie.

>But they need context OR must be subtle.
Says who? Tell that to Tarantino.
