strange. it’s like they froze in time somewhere around 1999. Smoking indoors is permitted (based), cigarettes are like $4 a pack, computers are still beige boxes, any website outside of their top 10 most visited still looks like it’s coded in html, small independent shops are a big thing, there’s actual CD stores, office workers wear loose fitting suits, another one is that there are still areas dedicated to certain niches, so one area for fashion, another for electronics, similar to London pre 2000s before everything became a homogenised mess. I know they’re all small things but added together it was a big culture shock. i mean it in a good way, i loved Tokyo and i enjoyed Fukuoka almost as much.

The plastic surgery meme is curious. Every attractive woman must have had it but then everyone who's had it ia also a plastic monster, and korea has the best plastic surgeons in the world but every 12 year old can spot the results from crappy stage photos of someone wearing heavy stage makeup under stage lights.
