I remember back in 2012 my college girlfriend and I binged a shot ton of big bang theory DVDs from the library over the course of a week. I remember laughing at the show. I think people here don't like it because they see the characters as mocking them, even when the show isn't trying to pick on anyone. In short I liked it and nerds don't because they are sensitive

The first couple of seasons tried to be smarter, but jokes didnt seem to land that well with the dumber audiences (as surpirising as it might sound to you)
Then they just decided to stick to the more nerdier stuff and references to pop culture. By season 3 it stablishes its mechanism for the remainder of the run.
Characters do get some development. Wolowitz later not being some ultra-perv was an improvement, the Raj thing not being able to speak without alcohol definitely wasnt working. Leonard just became worse as a person and Sheldon just barely grew but he somehow was less of a dick.
The changes were made to keep the thing running and it worked.
I wouldn't recommend it, but if you really ant to get a taste and an opinion off it, you can watch up to season 3.

Sheldon made a lot of progress with Penny. I think they made a huge mistake in the finale. It should have been 40 years later, leanord is dead, penny moves back to the farm, knock knock knock.

My brother used to think like this. Then he grew up and watched a few seasons and he thought it was ok. Better than Two and a Half Men for sure.
I do remember being compared to Leonard back in high school.

Because Chuck Lore did what he does, have a premise for an amusing show that could last maybe 5 seasons and then stretch it to infinity, all the while making the characters flanderized and the jokes dumber
Also, it's a nerd show written by people that were clueless about both science and "nerd culture". That episode where they were all playing some WoW rip off on 2010 laptops with no mouse made me apoplectic

It was okay at first. Not the funniest and plenty of cringe "comedy" but was okay and had some somewhat relatable jokes even if was mocking the characters in doing so. But thats where the unintended self depreciating humor came in, I'm laughing at my own retardation.
But in later seasons it got retarded because of course nobody in Hollywood can understand that people can go without having sex for more than 5 weeks so everyone gets a nice girlfriend and everything becomes generic relationship bullshit. The moment I literally deleted it from brain was when the fat guy cheated on his girlfriend, because that totally makes sense.
The jew girl was still cute though.
