There is no perfect parallel, but you could point to other examples of ethno-religious kinship, like Finns and Estonians, Brits and Australians, but those are probably too close ethnically.
Maybe a better example might be the People’s Republic of China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, looking at communism through the lens of a religion, in the sense that them both being communist is like Russia and Serbia both being Orthodox. Russia has also been a protector of the Serbs for centuries (caused WW1 for example), to some extent like how the PRC is a protector of the DPRK.
