Being a steady ally to the U.S. against communism from very early on, able to lend support in proxy wars without ever needing to go into total war, not having a particularly devastating communist insurgency within itself -- and having government institutions so well established that a few assassinations wouldn't completely destabilize the country.
All this makes a huge difference, especially when compared to its neighbors. And contrary to popular belief when people look at WW2, modern war is in itself not beneficial to an economy.
