It depends on the region of Brazil And it depends on where you go. São Paulo is the safest capital in the country today, but still yes if you go to the wrong place you can suffer violence (read futo here). Being murdered is almost impossible in São Paulo, only if you're stupid enough to get into a life of crime, become a police officer or reacting to a robbery with someone with a gun. I have never been robbed in São Paulo 27 years old and takes public transport and so on
