CPEC is not comercially viable other than for China-Pakistan trade. Even then Pakistan is unstable, and had got even more unstable since the Taliban takeover. In addition, transporting through seas is much more cost efficient than through land. A truck or even a frieght train would be more costly to ship from Balochistan to Fujian than directly a ship through the Malcca strait.

The other problem with Pakistan is that its still playing a balancing game between US and China. In the days ahead we'll likely see US try to make peace (and fail) between Pakistan and India and push India further to anti China and try to get Pakistan to reduce it's dependence on China.

This is why it's the best move to bring Russia in. Russia benefits from a peaceful China India relations becuase that means Russians get to sell their shit both to Indians and Chinese. The US benefits from an India China conflict. It's why Indian government is courting Russia. Russia can probably broker cold peace between China and India.

If today India was a $10 trillion economy with 25% of global manufacturing output, Pakistan would simply be isolated from the community of nations, eventually be vassalised or annexed partly by India.
