You don't know how true it is. At this point the majority of Russians have at least 25% of ancestry from Ukraine and vice versa for Ukrainians. Intermarriage between Russians and Ukrainians was huge in Soviet times. Not to mention half of Ukraine was Russia before 1917: Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk, Lugansk, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Nikolaev and so on. My grandfather is from Western Ukraine.
