It's not hate, it's just a rightly felt second hand embarrassment. Aside from 1st-generation immigrants they have literally zero connection to the homeland or the culture, unless they're one of those rare cases where someone grows up living in both countries, and people who make a big deal out of it just look silly.

Ok so I know that most Americans were from Europe and have European ancestry, however, it's very far away and you already mingled so often between each other, I really don't see the connection. When I hear someone outside of Germany say "I'm German" I expect them to know a bit of German culture, know a bit of German, and have full German parents or grandparents. However, when Americans say "I'm German" it means absolutely nothing.
