This, but unironically. I’m a senior software architect in Norway who earns $78k and that places me in the literally the top 5% income bracket in my country.

The myth of the high Norwegian wages is very misunderstood by foreigners. Wages are high for low income earners, but we also have extreme wealth equality laws that make sure that high income earners don't earn too much. That’s why everything is so expensive here, because the cleaning lady earns almost the same wage as an engineer.

Yeah, I make less money after working through my masters degree than my friends from high school that just started working immediately after high school. I have no idea, but I would assume something in the same ballpark, maybe a little less since most other types of engineers I know tell me that they wish they worked in software instead due to the salaries. But I think in the same ballpark.

there's the stress as well, I used to have a boss position at a former job and while I made slightly more money each month the stress really took a toll on me and if I had stuck with that company I would probably have cut 5-10 years of my total lifespan
having a tedious job is way better than having a stressful one

Indeed. In my profession there's a lot of "hidden overtime" as well. It's expected that you answer emails and calls outside working hours, and before deadlines etc. you pretty much have to pull in extra hours despite that there is no overtime pay in the contract. The narrative is that it's simply flex time, but in reality it's just free overtime. When I was a student, I worked on the docks. I miss that kind of work, when the shift was over I could just go home and not think about work at all. Now, I start planning my workday the evening before.
