What's the difference between Java or Javascript?

They're very different languages. The name is very misleading. It's not because javascript got branched out of java or something.

Java is a compiled language where you have to declare types.
Javascript is a runtime language where you don't have to declare types.

Java is strictly object oriented (which is retarded).
JavaScript is a multi-paradigm language.

Java is fast and safe.
JavaScript wasn't like that, but lately it's becoming fast af and safe.

If you're interested in culture from another country not translated you're going to have to learn the language.

For example, I have a soft spot for a lot of Russian things. For example, some great music:

Rutracker is one the best public trackers, yandex one of the best search engines, dvach one of the comfiest imageboards I know, and Everlasting Summer is unironically my absolute favourite game.

While some of Russian culture is translated to English, there is just so much you're missing out on. So therefore I'm trying to learn the language but even just babby shit like learning Cyrillic script is filtering me hard.

But my point is that it's so cool to try uncover new things outside of your own cultural sphere, it enriches your life, and variety is the spice of life. I think this super utilitarian view of languages many people (not only anglos) have is really sad.

Give other cultures a shot and if you find something you like then nurture that interest and you'll see how language learning suddenly makes sense.
