Are there any Italian noble families that are still around and powerful today? If so, does the average Italian know much about them?

as far as I know there are not many today
the few that remain have 8000 cadet branches and do nothing of note

idk in italy but the mayor of são paulo is from an old genoese family that dates from the 11th century, they had several famous doges and admirals and shit. if I had to guess I'd say they're still rich in italy as well.

Yes
And no

Savoy, Sicilian Bourbon, Habsburgs, and a shitload of minor nobility are still around. The Vatican has its own nobility that decided to side with the pope rather than Italy after the Papal States were lost.

I am from an old noble family, but the father of my grampa wasted all hsi money gambling hovever, now I am middle class but still own the title

Do the titles mean anything nowadays?

No
Our prime minister in I think 2017 was a count or something

no, but you have a funny surname

Yeah, there's a Cathar princess who regularly posts here.

>The Vatican has its own nobility
What?

>these dudes actually think Dubrovnik was Italian

google black nobility

Yes they're still rich and influential

The Rothschilds are descended from the Gwelf bloodline, a wealthy banking dynasty originally from Bavaria that became part of the Venetian banking elite.

>still around
Yes.
>powerful
Their titles don't mean anything anymore, the Constitution abolished them. However, they can keep calling themselves Counts, Princes, etc.
The ones that are powerful are those who didn't squander their wealth.

>but the father of my grampa wasted all hsi money gambling hovever

many such cases!

>not many today
They are usually the people that occupy the best and high wage jobs.

The Rothschilds descend from rhadanite
merchants.

Maybe in the anglo world

It’s the same in Italy, France, Germany. The nobility mixed with the wealthy merchants of the enlightenment and industrial revolution era btw.
