Depends on the city/town
In a bit more rural/less glamorous places you can find cheap flats no problem, in something like Munich or Hamburg however dont expect to find anything affordable.
Cost of living is pretty cheap yes but wages are shit and taxes are pretty high.

We have a lot of comfy forests where you can walk with your dog and, except for weekends maybe, absolutely nobody goes there so you can be all by yourself. It's pretty nice.
