Mandarin sounds horrible because its largest speaker base is mainland Chinese who have a disgusting earbleed causing accent.
Mandarin spoken by Taiwanese people sounds fine.
Singing sounds OK to you because the accent is largely dropped.

The difference in accent should be extremely obvious.

It sounds like they put 'are' at the end of every sentence. And words that have that sound are stretched. It's disgusting.
