I'm for development and highways are really something direly needed in many of these places, but placing them right in the middle of downtowns and cities is a huge mistake which will have to be fixed in several decades.

Poorfags from poorfag countries think car ownership is a sign of success and a status symbol, increasing private car ownership if every developing poorfag region which in turn increases the demand for car centric infrastructure because what use is a car if you can't drive it everywhere. This idea then spreads like wildfire because the handful of poorfags who managed to scramble enough disposable income to purchase and operate a private car do experience a period of increased quality of life futher validating this notion in the idea of others.
It lasts until the moment that privately-owned cars are prioritized by policymakers and urban planners at the cost of everyone else et voila.
Eurangtutans will try to larp that it's a uniquely american thing as if their cities weren't the same fucking urban car-centric hellspawns save for a handful of places in a minority of north-western countries kek.
