Classical Latin was a rather logical language with cases and declensions. No much need for articles or prepositions. Romance languages are derived from the Vulgar Latin spoken by soldiers and plebs.

Seriously why does this word even exist
>pass me salt
>pass me the salt

It's a specifier. As opposed to a salt or just salt.

which salt?

you want any salt or the salt?

>give me seed
>give me the seed

el comes from latin "ille" (that) in portuguese and galician o comes from "hoc" (this)

they don't mean exactly the same

OK
*passes you chromium salt*

Pass me le salt

>pass me salt
Which salt? Your salt? Who’s salt?

It's obvious from the context you autists

The subject in Latin is always in the nominative case, whereas the direct object is in the accusative case and the indirect object in the dative case, hence there is never a need for articles.

none of you ever took latin and it shows

Still, the definite article is nice for literary effect

I know articles are kinda dumb but you still sound like a caveman when you don't use them

>why do Latin based languages have the
Because unlike Latin, they are not highly inflective languages save for Romanian. Hence Romanian, having retained most Latin cases, doesn't have a use for articles most of the time.
>English
The dog eats the apple.
>French
Le chien mange la pomme.
>Spanish
El perro come la manzana.
>Latin
Canis malum edit.
>Romanian
Câinele mănâncă mărul.

Portvgvese not l*tin confirmed

why do slavs struggle so hard with understanding the relatively simple concept of articles?

evolves out of demonstratives generally
germanic languages didn't originally have it either and old english doesn't have an indefinite article

Aunque
Though

only russians complain about articles, other slavs speak spanish perfectly in a very short time

Because we say "any"/"that specific" only when it is not clear from situation, like Jesus intended
