Latin America is occidental as the Orthodox world and subsaharan africa are. We use the term "ocidental" that is mistranslated as western, but if we are trying to refer to NATO countries we would use the term "potências ocidentais" (western powers). This is from where the confusion comes from, we are occidental but not from the west bloc
