he killed too much of the population, and planned economy doesnt work, but heavy industry is extremely cyclical and you can plan it to a large degree
russian people suffered because soviet authorities went hard into military and heavy industry spending, but there are legitimate arguments that russian people would suffer even harder if they went into liberalism and consumer goods because they would be conquered by foreign powers
