Back when I first became old enough to start using the internet regularly (around 2008 or so, yes i'm a newfag I know) it was especially trendy to be a religion-hating, bible-bashing, loudmouthed edgelord, and let the whole world know. Everywhere you went, from Youtube comment sections to Reddit posts to Any Forums threads, it seemed everyone had a hate-boner for religion, especially Christianity. The Youtube scene was dominated by fedora tippers like The Amazing Atheist and Jaclyn Glenn, r/atheism was one of the most popular subreddits, fourms and comment sections were flooded with religious flame-wars, and mentioning that you were anything less than an antitheist who was intolerant of anything religious would have gotten you attacked by edgy trolls.
All this kinda went away around 2014 or so. Whether it was the dawn of the internet's political scene and the birth of the "SJW/Alt Right" trend (which has also died down) or the "tips fedora" meme, I can't say for certain. Either way, nobody cares about enlightened youtubers or pseudo intellectual douchebag redditors anymore, and I haven't seen a religious argument as opposed to a political one in ages. In some circles, like Nick Fuentes fanboys, it almost seems edgy and cool to be a radical creationist Christian, though it's most likely larp, but the tables seem to have turned.
I always attributed the edgy atheist phase of internet culture to 9/11/war on terror still being a recent memory (doesn't explain why Christianity was the primary target as opposed to Islam though) but it most likely had it's origins in the 80s/90s with the satanic panic/metal bands that were popular at the time. But I want to know what the tipoing point of the end was: when and why did atheism stop being cool on the internet?
When did atheism stop being cool on the internet?
It became too mainstream so to be edgy they switched to larping as religious. Simple as
I don't think this explains it, the USA is politcally very christian still
I think it's because a lot of edgy loudmouths what to inflame by railing against current popular culture. As pop culture has become open, progressive and non-religious it's no longer edgy or inflammatory.
So they've switched to what is inflammatory: anti identity politics and traditional beliefs
Thanks for comign to my ted talk
About the time the fedora meme came out. After that, it was over for athiests
>the USA is politcally very christian still
Lol no it fucking isntajgwg
That's what I meant, worded it poorly though
It's illegal to be an athiest in most states
until the 2010s being atheist was asociated with communism here and atheists were stigmatised as "a bunch of radicals"
it is sad to see that yout become atheist not because of philosophical reasons or because pisslam is shit, but because "le soience says otherwise" which is a half baked argument and leads most of them to covert back
the cool and edgy thing to do nowadays is to say you beleive in Tengri and say that "you can't be nationalist/modern and beleive in a God exported by arrapes" infront of islamists/secularists faces
When atheists showed their true colors and started acting openly exactly like the religiousfags they whine about.
Name 1(one) athiest president or VP
Name 1(one) athiest supreme court justice
You have a few congressmen and women and handful of senators but overall it is overwhelmingly christian
Are you on drugs?
When god punished the internet for out collective sin
FUCK MY FUCKING SPELLING
atheist*
Im an atheist
Especially with most of these "atheists" being Islam and Jews apologists and only bashing Christians.
People realised atheism leads to degeneracy and nihilism
I just grew out of being a teenager and realised that Grandmother and her religious views made more sense than whatever secular society could offer me.
Not reading any of that. It's always been fun to make fun of atheists because most of them are obnoxious pricks who think they know everything.
Because the concept of an afterlife doesn't work irl. Ghosts have no needs, and they can't die, so they don't have to do anything.
Also the concept of reincarnation also doesn't work irl. Because with such logic, everyone would be at the level of a super genius god due to unlimited experience.
Christians are rewarded in their religion for doing proselytism (between two handjobs)
Atheists just do that for a better world
Go back
What's the point if everything became dust?
I actually remember when atheists thought they were an "oppressed minority" lol
2015 or so when the alt right started forming, people started LARPing as Christian crusaders. Also, it just passed as a fad, since a lot of it was indeed cringey
No. Only crack
Typical Christian remark (Christians are nihilist)
Well?

Bizzarely so. There was a study done here a while ago that showed significant anti-religious bias in hiring practices. Surprisingly, christians were even more strongly selected against than muslims.
If you publicly admit to being a christian here, you will be ridiculed and become a social pariah.
