I'm no expert or anything, but could it be that difference of salaries has anything to do with different positions occupíed by workers of each genders? like more qualified males in better earning positions than females, on average?

here in Brasil labour law makes it obligatory that workers in the same position earn the same. That's why I think it odd for an employer to arbitrarily pay less to women on the sole basis of her gender.

But then again, that's concerning regular jobs, not informal ones of course.

assuming they have the same position, hours, workload etc. Then there is an actual pay gap, which is very illegal in the west and doesn't really exist and is never really the talking point of those supposed pay gaps.

To add from personal experience, I'm a software engineer. Most of my American female contemporaries have been pretty useless and expect to be helped with everything. I recently joined a team with an Indian woman who's an absolute machine. And I'm told Indians are way too sexist and oppressive... hmm

yes. that magnifies the difference greatly. however, women do get paid less for the same job in many places, even when made illegal to do so, simply by giving a different job title.

Women unironically think they should be given the same (and more) than men for doing the less work.
