I’m tired of hearing these Reddit-tier stories about the crazy shit you experienced in Japan that are either misunderstandings or complete fucking bullshit. Here are the facts
>Japanese people were talking about me secretly but they didn’t know I could understand because I “speak” Japanese You misheard them because of your shit Japanese and ego. Even if people assume you understand no Japanese at all (they won’t. Foreigners speaking Japanese is not rare now) no one is going to feel comfortable talking in front of you like that or around other people who can understand them in their own country
>Everyone is staring at me because I’m white If you are in a city, you must be either 195+ cm tall, grossly obese, dressed or acting like a retard, or you are imagining things. There are too many white people these days to waste time staring at everyone
>I was just walking around and a girl walked up asking to hook up for real guys Yeah there are women who do this. They’re called prostitutes, and con artists. If it was so easy to do it for free they would go out of business.
>guys I just saw an overworked salaryman dead from karoshi You saw a drunk guy. The police clean them up in the morning. He might be overworked too, but not necessarily
>They won’t let me into the restaurants because I’m a foreigner this is just like apartheid This is like 1 in 100 places and it’s filled with old people singing karaoke or a brothel. Go to literally anywhere else
>whoa no way it’s a heckin yakuza like the videogames Yeah they can just be club bouncers. It’s not that rare. You wouldn’t know if you did though
>Everyone is staring at me because I’m white The only people who stare at me are gaijin. I don't understand it but they always try to make eye contact with me and it freaks me out. Why are the gaijin staring at me? Am I invading their cloud by existing?
>They’re called prostitutes Shots fired. When I first moved here I used to get approached by filipina prostitutes near the train station because my schools dorm was in a shithole area.
>This is like 1 in 100 places It's way less than that. I have only seen a sign like that once and the Japanese part simply said that they can't speak English but you can go in if you speak Japanese. Needless to say I did go in and their katsudon was amazing.
>It’s not that rare I don't think I have ever seen a real yakuza. I'm convinced they're nothing more than a meme.
Robert Morris
>You saw a drunk guy. The police clean them up in the morning. You mean he was still legit dead?
Levi Morris
No, he was sleeping on the sidewalk because he missed the last train and he doesn't want to pay for a taxi or a hotel and he's too drunk to party until morning.
Eli Lee
But why doesn't the police take those at night instead of waiting until the morning like you said?
Justin Wood
A lot of posts on r/japanlife are very weird and hilarious, it seems every other person there is either mentally ill, a social outcast, virgin loser or unemployed mongoloid that thinks japan is a magical place that will fix his all of his problems.
Jeremiah Fisher
Why not let him sleep if he's not bothering anyone? They'll move him if he's being a nuisance or if he's in the way.

>visit japan >local americans and europeans

>>Everyone is staring at me because I’m white >If you are in a city, you must be either 195+ cm tall, grossly obese, dressed or acting like a retard, or you are imagining things. There are too many white people these days to waste time staring at everyone I'm 204cm tall with a wife that's about 190cm. Everyone stared at both of us everywhere we went. I don't think it's a white thing but it is pretty awkward and rude having it happen everywhere we went.
Sebastian Flores
i dont get it
Matthew Cruz
204 cm is like less than 1% of the human population. Probably less than 1% of white people too. I’m talking about how people think it’s because they’re foreigners, or slightly taller than average
Blake Murphy
>oh my god they reply to me in Japanese even when I talk to them in my fluent Japanese, they are so racist!!!! No your japanse is just too crap and it’s pain in the ass to hold a conversation with you in Japanese. Or we legit don’t understand what the hell you are sayin in Japanese.
Henry Gray
I stare at freakishly tall people no matter what color they are. For context: I'm white.
Blake Cox
>There are too many white people these days to waste time staring at everyone Whites make up less than 0.1% of Japans population. Being stared at abit is realistic actually, especially now with no tourists
Zachary Morris
Its too late for this pvt gomez

>>They won’t let me into the restaurants because I’m a foreigner this is just like apartheid This one is actually starting to annoy me. And what you said is also not true. Nowadays they can easily get cancelled if restaurants/bars refuse to serve foreigners just because they are bing foreigners. It's not realistic at all. I think this misconception was mainly caused by the ''first-time customers not welcome'' system which maybe only widely exists for tiny bars/restaurants in Japan today.
Oliver Flores
Whilst obviously not common place. The stereotypes stem from the fact that there has been bars/restaurants/shops in Japan which haven't allowed foreigners. This would be totally unacceptable in the west hence why it's drew some attention.
The same thing exists in Korea too, and is also talked about online on reddit etc. Although I have no doubt that this is pretty much non-existent nowadays especially with the internet where you can easily expose these shops online
> bars/restaurants/shops which haven't allowed foreigners. >unacceptable in the west that's a kind of common in various small bars/restaurants in euro or the us based on my experience I guess you have never traveled abroad
Of course I know about those pictures, but I've never seen it irl and I've been living it in tokyo for over 10 years. If you actually come to Japan and try hard to find this kind of sign yourself, that would take a week. It's would be like 1 in 30000 places.
My point is, complaints like ''I got refused because I'm foreigner'' are too many despite cases like you posted are EXTREMELY rare so I'm pretty sure that there's some kind of misconception. You think you expose it by posting several pictures online but you really don't.
