Yes. I’ve been to the one place where they are actually native, which is in the Anza Borrego desert. Every other palm tree is grown on a farm.

Not that weird, they're from the same state and their native habitat is not even that far.

They have one native species, the California fan palms. They are commonly found there.

Ironically, they grow taller in California than where they're native to.

The long ones are from Mexico

While there are several native palm trees species here, those that are used for decoration of cities are mostly of foreign origin (Middle east, Southwestern USA and South America), Mexico city for example has some that are at least 80 years old after the president of that time tried to emulate Beverly Hills.

I have seen native species in the dry areas of our pacific coast, they make the landscape look very cool but they are small, not very hardy to different climates and not that majestic when compared to foreign species.

residential areas has all kinda trees planted, but no palms.

in the early 1900s the city of LA specifically planted palm trees along roads and sidewalks to feature them in Hollywood films and attract migrants from the cold industrialized midwest. They dont naturally grown in Southern California but if you plant them they wont die
