I stopped reading after the first sentence — that our lives hold zero value was always an opinion of our elites, or, to be precise, our rulers, but not of "average Russian".
What average Russian believes is that his opinion holds little value and he should be silent because it's just comfortable. Hence the saying, "Russians are long to prepare but fast to ride", not literal translation ("Pyccкиe дoлгo зaпpягaют нo быcтpo eздят").
Some people use it in relation to foreign politics but originally it was about inner Russian riots.
