The news media outlets of so-called "democratic" countries employ just as many propaganda techniques and often cater to the governments or the militaries of said countries as well.
The key is not banning outlets you don't like but teaching the audience to analyze individual pieces of media and to decide for themselves. Which is something the US government did for a short while with the Institute for Propaganda Analysis until they realized that having a critically thinking population is actually inconvenient for them and shut it down.
