Russians didn't even know they were going to war. They're surrendering in droves. Putin bit off more than he could chew and this may well be the end for him.

He's not going to lose due to the sheer difference in manpower and capabilities between the Russian and Ukrainian armies. However he exposed the Russian military as a piece of shit for everyone to see, and if Ukrainians engage in guerilla/resistance after the country collapses then he's in for a hell of a ride.

Putin wants to give Europe time to react to financially support the conflict and internationally take a position in this conflict they don't have anything to do with.
