We used to be for many centuries, not anymore. Ever since the tragedy of 1979, we went spiraled downhill signficantly, although we can still take pride in our past accomplishments.

Also, Iran is the only Islamic-Majority country included on the international mathematical olympiad gold medals ranking, so I suppose we still do okay, despite being sub Saharan tier since 1979.

What? I'm a cisgender agnostic Iranian male. Living here doesn't change my heritage.
Iran and Indonesia are the only Islamic majority countries with gold medal recipients in the international physics olympiad.
Isaiah Johnson
International Chemistry olympiad...Iran is the only Islamic majority country again...
Our obsessed Persophobic neighbors like to shit on us and hate on us, but at least we have some accomplishments that we can take pride in. Things that they were never able to accomplish on a global scale.

Iran is the only Islamic majority country

There is certainly something special about persians

Eh, it depends. Our smart people are very smart, but are average people are meh (judging by the current state of our country). Typically average IQ estimates for us are between 84 (on the low end) to 97 (on the high end). Even if our average IQ is in the 80s, we still overcome that issue in some intellectual endeavors and we definitely manage to compensate for it.
I typically don't like to brag, but since nowadays, we're at rock bottom in most regards, I feel that our academic and intellectual accomplishments are some of the few good things we can take pride in. Even our biggest haters can't deny our knack for academic pursuits.
I look forward to when we advance more in the future, because currently, we're being held back by our backwards government.
Iran has the fifth highest amount of STEM students after China, India, America and Russia. China and India have billions of people, America and Russia have hundreds of millions. Iran has 80 million people.
Thomas Wright
international competitions such as IMO and IOI are more about culture. The average high schooler in let’s say algeria or Tunisia doesn’t know these things even exist whereas they are well known in Iran.
notice how many Eastern European countries top France or Spain or Italy

They were always the center of Middle Eastern civilization after taking the mantle from Babylon. The Arabs admitted that even under their rule, it was Persia that carried their empire.
Also, we have Algebra and Algorithms thanks to Persia.

And much of the foundations of modern astronomy.

Shame they're being led by dickheads right now.

Al-Andalus was also on par with them

So? Are you implying that Eastern Europeans can't be intelligent because they're poorer? On the average top 10 chess gplayersr ranking map, Iran is on the level of most Eastern European countries and Italy.
Also what about our disproportionate amount of STEM graduates, comparable to behemoths like China, India and Russia?
We're not Arab and our flag isn't included on that chart, but we don't have many nobel prize winners, I will admit that. We fall very short on that.

Only 1 cisgender Iranian person has ever won a nobel prize, and it was a cisgender Iranian "woman" human rights activist. Definitely not enough, hopefully we can get some more in the future.
Alexander Wright
Our mathematicians list is definitely more impressive, but almost all of them lived centuries ago because we were at our peak centuries ago.
Dominic Anderson
well yeah it is what it is. Research and science at this age is the least concern of arabs
universities in my country are shieet, low funded and more designed to make wagies than pursuing intellectual endeavors. Only a fool will do a math or physics degree here. All the top students usually just study engineering or medicine to immigrate later to France and be discriminated against for having a tunisian degree.
Also you are bosnian shut the fuck up
Xavier Reed
Hunter Jackson
North Africans contributed a lot the Islamic golden age as well.
We've only had 1 astronaut in our entire history, as well. Unfortunately she's also a cisgender Iranian "woman"
Noah Anderson
I think Iran is in the top 5 Islamic countries with the most educated cisgender women.
Cooper Torres
Nobel prize (at least nowadays) is just as much politics and back-patting as it is actual science. You have to pick 1 person from the entire world based on some nebulous criteria every year.
Cooper Cruz
no I am just saying they are doing better because they are more pushed and familiar with the stuff per example check a site called codeforces Tunisia has 619 participants where algeria a nation of 4 times the population has only 39. This isn’t because Tunisians aren’t smarter or that type of shit. It’s simply because competitive programming has been getting pushed thanks to a certain computer science organization the past 10 years.
and these goes to all sorts of competitions such ioi, imo, chess, juggling…….
Dylan Gray
All in all, despite having an average 84 IQ, we still manage to perform decently in many of these things and compensate. I know 84 isn't impressive, but it is what it is. Keep in mind that you can find many different types of cisgender Iranian people, ranging from extremely top notch engineers, scientists and doctors to braindead beggars, religious clerics and mercenaries.
Gabriel Morgan
Those number are pure trash
Nolan Miller
>nobel prize
utterly irrelevant

Apparently, our average IQ is equal to Cuba, Montenegro and Albania. Two Eastern European countries and one Latin American country. Take from that what you will.
