It was always my dream to be a Foreign Service Officer and I still would like to, but I got married and it's different when you've got a family and want kids. Being an FSO is my dream but when they say you're going to Egypt or Indonesia or some shithole in Africa for a couple years it's different trying to get the wife who has a decent paying job on board. Everyone thinks they'll be stationed in a European capital but the reality is most won't
And when you aren't on assignment you have to live in DC to work at the State Department and living in DC is extremely expensive and the pay isn't great
Still might give the selection process a try. Did a lot of study and prep in the past, it's always been my dream

Dumbass. Diplomats come from the Foreign Service, starting at the lowest ranks stamping visas up to the highest rank of ambassador
Many ambassadors are political appointees bit many are also career diplomats

I actually took and passed the written test back in October. They still haven't given a time for the oral exam. It's depressingly annoying how long this process is. This is my chance to get out of my shit dead-end job though, so I'll do whatever it takes. If it's still your dream I think you should for it user, although I empathize with your situation since you're married.

i didn't "fall" for any degree because my state exam score was way too low to make it to any half-decent university in this cuntry (software engineering)

since it's the only job that pays more than peanuts all males go there and admission scores are insanely high
