Companies have to pay overflight fees to fly over other countries airspace, and Russia charges exhorbitant fees, and also at least during the Soviet times, they only conceded those permits to a small number of companies. That's why you don't see many international flights over Russia. It's how Anchorage airport in Alaska came to be a major stopover point for flights between Europe and East Asia. The Finns got around this by flying along the arctic border of Russia.
Anyway, russkis should be banned from European and North American airspace.

Yeah it's because they can since they have such a useful airspace. The price is regulated by demand. They charge those fees because going around it would be much more costly

Not so useful. Back in the old days yes, but now with modern airplanes the polar route or the middle east route are more convenient to go places. It's only useful as a connection between Japan/Korea/China and Europe. And I imagine chinese carriers pay a special discount fee because Putin is a cuck to them.
