Which languages are compulsory to learn in a school in your country?
In Poland we learn compulsory English and German language.
From elementary school to high school i learned English and German
Compulsory
English and a second option.
Most schools offer spanish and french as the second option while some schools also offer german, mandarin,...
So it's usually the pair English + language of your choosing here
When I was at school we were the first year for whom French wasn't compulsory, so I only studied English. I think they've made it compulsory to study at least one foreign language now though, but thankfully they've allowed students to forego the babbling nonsense that passes for a native tongue amongst the dogs of Gaul, and permitted the teaching of Spanish, German and Mandarin as well.
English and German/French/Spanish
english and sw*dish
By myself I kind of a hate German language, because in High School we learn German at really high level and I don't use German everyday so it is hard to remember the words and other things, meanwhile with English language I have it easier because I have a contact with this language everyday so it is easier to learn English and remember it.
English + a second living foreign language and we also had latin in my school
English and/or Spanish.
Amd my second foreign language was French
this
English is taught from elementary school, French from secondary school
you can also choose Spanish, and some schools offer Italian, Russian, Polish, Dutch, etc., but I think those are relatively rare
English, French and Spanish are the big ones
and Latin courses are available too
French but only up to grade 8
English
Then 90%/10% between spanish and german
Oh god I miss latin. It was by far the comfiest class
English and then you choose between French or German. Ther may also be Italian or Spanish but I've never heard anyone do that.
We also study a bit of lating but it's basically like studying the roots of our words not really a separate language.
Obligatory: Dutch (=Belgian), French, German
Optional: more German
And the Latin and ancient Greek courses are an option too but that doesnt count
>compulsory English and German
Unless something has changed in the last ~three years, the requirement is for one modern language starting in elementary school, and a second modern language in high school. There is no mention of any specific languages. Just that English+German is the most popular combination I guess.
t. extended German + basic Russian at high school a decade ago.
German French English and some even Latin. Fuck this shit
none.
most students study 2 years of Spanish. Some take 2 years of French. if you are in a flyover state/a really weird kid you can take 2 years of German. If you are a richfag going to a richfag school you can take 2 years of some other language like Chinese. Ultimately you aren't compelled to learn any particular language. Just that you study one for 2 years.
English
That's it, the rest are optional
English and spanish
It's the same here, it's 1 foreign language in elementary and 2 in high school. Which is bullshit because there are unironically people who have their kids study German. Also, people who study German as their primary language in high school are exclusively those who weren't good enough to get into the program where they study English as their first foreign language.
Irish is compulsory throughout the entirety of primary and secondary. Somehow though the vast majority still graduate unable to speak it at all. In secondary school most students will also pick either Spanish French or German as a foreign language, none is mandatory but most high level colleges have a foreign language as an entry requirement so almost all students do.
can you speak Irish?
French starting from 3rd grade and English in middle school.
You can study a 3rd foreign language if choose to do so, there is Spanish, Italian, German and Russian but starting from 2018 they added Korean, Turkish and Chinese.
