All historic evidence shows the Picts were Gaelic speakers and they considered themselves so and Scottish Gaelic is simply New Pictish whereas the language of St Columbas time was Old Pictish, no surviving examples apart from two words, ogham inscriptions and some names. So Scottish Gaelic does not really have any surviving literary texts until the 1500s really due to the Protestant revolution.
