I've heard some people say that the real reason the Japanese surrendered was because of the Russians and not the Americans, after the bombs dropped the Russians took Manchuria incredibly fast and were preparing the move on Japan, the only reason they surrendered to the Americans was because they thought the emperor would be more likely to survive under them as opposed to the Russians who would likely try to set up a socialist state.
